L'Oreal Superliner Review/Comparison - Ultra Precision vs. Black Lacquer (with swatches)

Liquid eyeliner used to intimidate me slightly - mainly because it always seemed like you needed an incredibly steady hand to be able to create a perfect cat flick. There are a great range of liquid eyeliners from high street or drugstore makeup brands and L'Oreal make some of my favourites.
While they produce a vast range, some are very similar. It may be difficult to tell the difference without researching the unique traits of each eyeliner beforehand. This is just a little comparison of the two in case anyone was wondering about the differences.

My first liquid eyeliner was the L'Oreal Superliner Ultra Precision. I'd read that it was amazing for creating slim lines and that a steady hand was no longer a necessity with this product.
I think the brush is a little bit too long for me. As it is a felt tip type applicator, it's quite soft and bendable which means it can jump around a little if your hand is shaky. The Ultra Precision liner is marketed as a perfect introduction to the initially wobbly world of liquid eyeliner. I wouldn't call it perfect, but there's not much I'd change about it other than the length of the applicator.
The formula is more faded and watery than the Black Lacquer liner and it does not stay on as long. Ordinarily this would be a bad thing, but if you're not the best at applying eyeliner it can actually be quite helpful. I find myself swabbing at the corners of my eyes with face wipes on a nearly daily basis when I get a little too adventurous with the cat flicks - the fact that this eyeliner is easily removable can be useful!

However, I wish someone had shown me L'Oreal's Black Lacquer Superliner first.
The brush is virtually identical - but slightly shorter and with a less pointed tip. The rounded tip means it is slightly more difficult to apply with precision.
The formula lasts forever. I could probably wash my face with this stuff on and it wouldn't come off - makeup remover is definitely needed, Garnier Micellar water (which I reviewed here) should do the trick! The formula also creates a pitch black, glossy line; whereas the Ultra Precision is more matte and a far paler black.
I'm certain this is a rebrand of the L'Oreal Carbon Gloss liner: a firm blogger favourite and raved about by the likes of Zoella.

So, which do I prefer?
I'm going to have to say the Black Lacquer liner simply because it stays on all day. I hate getting home and seeing that my eyeliner has gone all patchy under my eyes, or that it's just worn off. With the L'Oreal Black Lacquer eyeliner, I don't have to worry about that anymore!
I would recommend the Ultra Precision liner to people who aren't as confident with liquid eyeliner as it is easier to correct your mistakes afterwards and the pointed tip makes cat flicks slightly easier.

Have you tried either of these? What's your favourite eyeliner?

  3. I'm awful with liquid eyeliner. I always make a giant mess with them even when they're supposed to be easy to use. The product usually ends up in my eye as well rather than actually around it. Liquid eyeliner and I just weren't to be.

    1. I feel your pain on that one, if only I could find a pencil/kohl one which could actually stay on my eyes instead of smudging all over my cheeks.. xx
